Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has made it clear through the Spanish press this summer transfer window that the Royal White club has zero interest in signing Rodri from Manchester City. Even though Rodri said months ago that he wants to go to the White House this summer, with one year left on his contract, it looks like the only way for the Spanish international to finally achieve his Real Madrid dream is to run down his contract and sign on as a free agent in 2027.
But not everyone feels the same way about Rodri as Perez does. The Madridistas themselves would love to sign the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, especially after Rodri admitted that he respects Vinicius Junior and that the Brazilian international was the deserving winner to mend that fence.
Despite how brilliant Rodri has been at the World Cup and Real Madrid players even telling the media behind the scenes that they want the Manchester City man at the Santiago Bernabeu, it looks like Florentino is still not swayed.
Rodri is still not going to Real Madrid
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are not planning to return to the Rodri transfer track and that the transfer remains cold.
Rodri just won the Golden Ball at the World Cup and dominated Argentina in the Final, just as he did France in the semifinals. So if there were doubts about him after his ACL tear or the fact that he is now 30 years old, Rodri pretty much answered those questions at the World Cup, including against the very best of the best including Real's literal current starting No. 6 Aurelien Tchouameni and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, who was viewed at one point by Jose Mourinho as the best possible replacement for Tchouameni.
Now, Jose and Madrid have made it clear to Tchouameni, particularly by extending his contract through the 2030/31 season, that they are fully committed to the Frenchman and do not want to sign a new midfielder to replace him.
But Real Madrid can always change their minds, and it seems like the Madridistas would like them to after fawning over his World Cup knockout displays for the Spanish national team. And if Eduardo Camavinga were to ask to leave for a big Premier League club or PSG despite digging his heels in to stay so far, that could be the opening to nab Rodri now instead of potentially waiting for his contract to run out.
