Real Madrid has been the most active in the transfer window this summer than we have seen them in recent years. The club has already announced four new signings and they have been working hard on a number of departures as well, and the transfer guru himself Fabrizio Romano has just confirmed the agreement between Real Madrid and this Italian club for a top Castilla product.
As announced by Fabrizio Romano on X, Fiorentina have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign fullback Victor Valdepenas in a deal worth around €8 million. The 19-year-old will sign a deal until 2031 with the Italian side, and much like other sales of academy players, Real Madrid will retain a 50% sell-on clause in case of any future transfers of Valdepenas.
Fabrizio Romano give the 'here we go' for Valdepenas departure
Valdepenas was handed his first team debut by Xabi Alonso this season, filling in for an injured Ferland Mendy and suspended Alvaro Carreras during Real's 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves back in December. The defender impressed during what would be his one and only senior team appearance, only making the bench for other matches but never getting the opportunity to show his skills once again.
With the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, and given that Alvaro Carreras and Ferland Mendy are still on the books, it was always going to be difficult for the youngster to break into the first team, and as a result a move elsewhere for more regular game time is the best outcome for this early stage in his career. It had been reported that a number of Serie A teams including AC Milan, Fiorentina, and Bologna, as well as Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt were keeping a close eye on the youngster, with Fiorentina being the team that finally pulled the trigger on a move.
Valdepenas becomes the eighth current or former Real Madrid academy product to be sold this summer, with the sales bringing in a total of €138 million, funds the club could use to reinforce Jose Mourinho's squad even more than they already have.
It's safe to say Real Madrid fans will be rooting for Valdepenas to do well in this next step in his career. He had an impressive showing in his only first team performance so it's not like he's leaving the club on bad terms or anything, and who knows, maybe one day we could see Valdepenas return to the club should he develop into a top player, much like we've seen with Nico Paz at Como in the recent years.
