Real Madrid have focused their main efforts on signing midfielders in the summer transfer window, as they have mostly fulfilled the quotient of defenders that Jose Mourinho wants to sign for the club, minus one lingering center back signing.

Mateus Fernandes, Enzo Fernandez, and Ayyoub Bouaddi are widely seen as the three players Los Blancos want to sign the most in the middle of the park, and depending on how many players they are willing and able to cut loose, perhaps even two midfielders could be in order for the club.

There are other options whispered about, too. Adam Wharton is one, and the more experienced star Rodri of Manchester City is another. Rodri has been wanting to join Real Madrid for a while, even using an international break with Spain to publicly pine for the Merengues, even though he used to play for their crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid are looking at the other options

Despite constant links, Real Madrid have not been biting, as Florentino Perez does not seem to be the most interested in the player. And neither, apparently, is Jose Mourinho. According to the latest information from Fabrizio Romano, the Rodri trail has now gone very cold for Real Madrid.

It seems as though Rodri is basically not even a topic for Real Madrid on the transfer market and should, from now on, be discarded as entirely as an option on their transfer short list this summer window.

Perhaps Real Madrid will circle back to Rodri if he becomes a free agent in the summer 2027 transfer window, as he and Manchester City have still not agreed to a deal, perhaps because the Spanish superstar is hoping to run down his contract so that he can cash in as a free agent and join the No. 1 club he wants to play for to wrap up the prime of his career as he chases more Champions League titles than just the 2022/23 edition.

Rodri is a wonderful player. He has all the traits you would want in a holding midfielder with his defensive quality, intelligence, progressive passing, and even his ability to score great goals from range. He is a great athlete and technician, and he is someone who understands the game at a higher level.

Real Madrid are probably worried about his age, injuries, and cost. For now, he is not a topic, but he cannot be ruled out for free in 2027.
