The priority for Real Madrid this summer transfer window is to extend the contract of Vinicius Junior, who has just one year left on his contract. In all reality, Real should have already inked Vini, one of their most important players and the best left winger in the world, to a new deal long before we got to this point, but, well, here we are.

Fabrizio Romano and Spanish media outlets have relayed that after the 2026 World Cup, Vinicius and Madrid are finally getting closer and closer to inking a lucrative contract extension that the two sides have been bafflingly still haggling over for months, giving some fan bases like Arsenal's hope of a blockbuster transfer steal in 2027.

In his latest transfer news update, Romano says that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is indeed pushing for the Vinicius Junior contract renewal, adding that the club still want everything done and dusted as soon as possible. But Fab warns that there is still one key detail left to resolve, and it is the most important of them all: money. Per Romano, the discussion of the financial aspect of Vini's new deal still remains and is of high importance.

Show Vinicius Jr. the money

Vinicius Jr. probably wants to exceed the 30 million euro threshold and make what Kylian Mbappe is making, putting the two on even footing. But with Mbappe winning two Pichichi trophies and blowing up at the World Cup with more records broken this summer, it is impossible for anyone to justify that - and then Mbappe would look at Vini's new figure and want more money for himself.

Perhaps Vinicius has taken his focus off that, seeing how Brazil finished at the World Cup and how France is still going strong with Mbappe scoring more and more goals, and realizin that he is not going to be able to justify crazy money.

So maybe that is boosting the optimism of a better deal being struck for Real Madrid, but it says something that Florentino Perez was not pushing this hard sooner for a new deal for Vincius Jr. The guy has won two Champions Leagues for Real Madrid as a crucial player and is the soul of this team; everyone in the locker room loves him no matter who he plays for or who is in it. Extending him is a no brainer, and Madridistas will see what the final financial terms hold, but it is no surprise that money is the final sticking point; it almost always is.
