Real Madrid are not making it a secret that they are on the hunt for a new manager, and while there is still a chance that interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa stays with how much the players are pushing for him behind the scenes to remain their manager, the prevailing sense is that Real feel that they can do better than Arbeloa. They want a bigger name, a more experienced and proven coach on their side, and they feel the club did not improve enough with the manager switch from Xabi Alonso.
At the stage Real Madrid are in and while staring down a second trophy less season, those points are all valid, even though it is also valid to think that Arbeloa has been hard done by the circumstance he finds himself in. He has genuinely been doing a good job with a flawed squad.
But Real Madrid are prepared for a big splash, and in addition to the reviving of the age old Jurgen Klopp rumors, Los Blancos are after an even bigger name. Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the rumblings of a Jose Mourinho reunion with Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid
Per Fab, Mourinho would love to have a romantic comeback with Real Madrid, as the Special One reportedly feels something special for Los Blancos to this day. Although Romano says that Mourinho has not been formally contacted by the Spanish giants just yet, he is on the list of potential targets to replace Alvaro Arbeloa - his former right back in the capital more than 10 years ago.
Mourinho is currently managing Benfica, and what is especially wild about the rumors linking Real to the Portuguese coach is the role he played in excusing Gianluca Prestianni's racist remarks against Vinicius Junior during their Champions League playoff tie.
But despite that, the reputation of the mercurial Jose Mourinho has not been tarnished around the Santiago Bernabeu. He is in the running for the job. And now, based on what Fabrizio Romano is reporting, the Special One is highly interested in the club.
Mourinoh has had high profile appointments since his peak has subsided and was great for Roma, and he has done some nice things for Benfica, too, including an upset of Real Madrid in the final game of the Champions League "League Phase" in order to even get that knockout draw with Los Blancos. But is he as good as Xabi Alonso in this day and age? Probably not tactically, but maybe in terms of gettin the most out of the players in the short term before he goes "Full Mou", he could be an interesting hire.
