Real Madrid are already beginning their search for a new manager for the 2026/27 season, because even though Alvaro Arbeloa has done an incredible job as the interim coach following the club turning on club icon Xabi Alonso, he has not been able to bring a trophy to Real. Nor was he initially hired by Florentino Perez as someone who was expected to be a long term solution.
Florentino and Real Madrid like to make splashes. It is occasionally to their detriment, as we have seen by how the Kylian Mbappe transfer has destabilized a Champions League winner from 2023/24, but that is how things run at the Santiago Bernabeu - and there are far more successful examples of the big moves working out, which could eventually be the case for Mbappe, too.
There would be no bigger splash for Real Madrid to make in terms of a new manager than hiring Jurgen Klopp. He took Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool from the doldrums of mediocrity back to being among the titans of European football again, but he's never managed one of the Big 3 clubs in Europe (Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Bayern Munich).
Real Madrid are waiting for Jurgen Klopp
Klopp is being linked to Real Madrid now, and Fabrizio Romano had an update on him in a big video on Real Madrid on his YouTube channel. Fab says that Real Madrid are indeed very big fans of Klopp and would ilke to hire him. However, instead of making the first move for the German coach, Real Madrid prefer to have him see these rumors and wait for him to come to them, because they want to know that Klopp is interested in coaching again before even opening up the conversation.
Jurgen Klopp is a guy who goes heavy metal in all that he does. He holds himself to a high standard and seeks high achievement. But that can also burn him out after some time, and that was a big reason why he decided he had to step away from Liverpool, even though he was still doing a great job as the Reds manager.
So Real Madrid aren't going to try and pull him back in until he is ready to do so. Klopp's counterattacking style of football and his ability to relate to players, in addition to being a great rival for Real Madrid in the Champions League, make him a very interesting hire for Los Blancos.
