Real Madrid defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is potentially up for transfer this summer window, and while Los Blancos are not actively shopping the No. 6, there is an understanding that if Real were to get an enticing enough offer and if the Frenchman wanted a new move, he could potentially make his way out for a big signing to replace him in the defensive midfield.

Signed for 80 million euros in 2022 ahead of big interest from PSG and Liverpool, two clubs Real Madrid eliminated to win the Champions League, Tchouameni was brought in to replace the legendary Casemiro, who made his way to Manchester United that summer.

Now, Tchouameni could potentially replace an Inter Milan bound Casemiro at Old Trafford this summer. Man United and Chelsea, who are now managed by Tchou's 2025/26 coach Xabi Alonso, are the two big Premier League clubs with significant interest in the French national team starter. And though he is currently out with an injury at the World Cup, they remain interested.

Aurelien Tchouameni prospects look bleaker

But according to a new transfer update from Fabrizio Romano, the reality is that Manchester United have made it clear to Aurelien Tchouameni that they are not interested in paying his wages. If he wants to move to Old Trafford from the Santiago Bernabeu, then he will have to make less than the current 12.5 million euros per season he earns from Florentino Perez. On top of that, Fab adds that Real Madrid have not given Man United the green light that they want to sell the player either.

Manchester United fans will feel frustrated at the argument being Tchouameni's wages. While 12.5 million euros is a lot of money and probably not what he deserves to make based on his play over the past couple of seasons, it also is not an unreasonable salary and one he could easily outplay if Man United get the most out of him, which they are probably confident in if they want to sign him to replace Casemiro in the first place.

There has been a history of Man United not signing true top targets from big clubs because they do not want to match the wages, and with the Champions League back under Michael Carrick and a run at the Premier League title again just a couple of strong signings away, the Red Devil faithful will want to see a bigger push for Tchouameni. But Real Madrid, with no interest in Enzo Fernandez or the others right now, are in no hurry to sell and certainly won't sell if they can't get 90 million euros or more to then put that money to use on Enzo from Chelsea.
