Real Madrid have signed Racing Santander midfielder Sergio Martinez for three million euros, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Contrary to popular pleas from fans online, Martinez will not stay at Racing Santander for another season. He will join Real Madrid immediately,
He is a really talented 19 year old who will probably be registered with Castilla to start the season.
It is kind of underwhelming for the midfielder on a personal level as he was playing regular second-tier football last season towards the end of the campaign, and he also started two of Racing's three games in the top division this season.

However, it is generally the case for most players that if they want first hand opportunities down the line, it is probably better for them to stay at Castilla level than go somewhere on loan and hope to come back to Real Madrid at some point.
We have seen with so many players in the last couple of seasons, who leave for greener pastures, either on loan or with a buy-back clause, with hopes to return to the club down the line. Very few players are able to do so.
Martinez is still young, and if he is as talented as suggested by some of his performances, he will have no problem showing Real Madrid he is too good for Castilla.
He is a profile that can play in many different positions in the midfield. He is tall, but is also silky with the ball, and has a good passing range. It will be interesting to see what kind of midfielder Jose Mourinho views him as, if he is to regularly feature for the first team.
He has played as a six, and in a double pivot in the past, which would be the ideal position for him if Mourinho ever decides to bring him into the picture.
The Portuguese midfielder also has the option to play Thiago Pitarch when he comes back from injury this season, however, if Martinez enters the picture instead and shows some promise for the first team, he can make things difficult for Thiago to win over Mourinho once again.
In any case, it will be interesting to follow his development over the course of the season, because he is a profile Real Madrid could use, mould and develop to their needs for the future, and hopefully, they do so well.
