Real Madrid have just about closed a deal for RB Leipzig's teenage phenom Yan Diomande on the wings to start across from Vinicius Junior, so now their 100 percent focus turns to world class Manchester City defensive midfielder Rodri, who just proved he is still the best player in his position by winning the Golden Ball at the World Cup.
Rodri made short work out of current Real Madrid starting No. 6 Aurelien Tchouameni before doing the same to Enzo Fernandez, who was the other elite defensive midfielder the Royal Whites were linked to this summer transfer window.
Real Madrid were not interested in Rodri for much of the summer window despite the player himself practically begging for the move since March, but executives at the Valdebebas have been able to successfully convince president Florentino Perez to lowerh is guard and remove his grudge against Rodri; he is now open to signing the Man City star.
A move Real Madrid will be rooting for
And while Man City are reluctant to sell to their Champions League rivals despite Rodri obviously wanting out and only having one year left on his contract anyway, a recent event indicates Man City are finally coming to grips with and preparing for the Ballon d'Or midfielder's departure.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are still in direct club to club talks with Lille phenom Ayyoub Bouaddi, who was actually higher up the list of transfer targets for Real earlier this summer transfer window after his insane World Cup match against Brazil before Real quietly curved from him as a target.
Romano says that negotiations are ongoing between both Manchester City and Lille and Man City and Bouaddi, and the decision is basically up to Bouaddi at this point. He can join Man City very easily, but he can decide if he is ready for the leap to the Etihad now or in 2027.
Either way, he would replace Rodri, but he would either do so this season or next, and Real Madrid fans will hope that either way he chooses, it leads to Rodri coming to them. Ayyoub Bouaddi is a very talented player and the next big thing in football, but Real already have a young gem in the defensive midfield in Aurelien Tchouameni, even if he is not nearly as young as Bouaddi.
But Real Madrid need someone world class now like Rodri who can anchor the midfield. If Man City can sign Bouaddi right now this summer as Rodri's heir, then Rodri to Madrid is almost a guaranteed deal.
