Manchester City star defensive midfielder Rodri is now back to being the biggest topic around Real Madrid after Yan Diomande briefly took center stage, but the Ivorian international's time in the spotlight was only brief because it took merely a day for Real to apparently, per Fabrizio Romano, seal the deal of his transfer for Jose Mourinho.
Now, Real Madrid are back in the swing of things with Rodri as their priority target, as fan pressure and internal pressure on Florentino Perez helped change the president's mind to go after the man who is now the Golden Ball of the World Cup - after being the Golden Ball of the world of football just two years ago.
According to new information from Fabrizio Romano, not only has Florentino Perez given his full approval for Real Madrid to after Rodri, but he and Madrid are also reportedly prepared to spend on the player. Fab says Real are ready to pay more than 50 million euros if necessary to get this deal done, even though that price point for a veteran player with an injury history and one year left on his contract was intiailly expected to be a problem.
Real Madrid are willing to spend after all
Madrididstas did not expect the club and its president to be willing to spend about the 60 million euros that Manchester City seem to be asking for Rodri, but it looks like time has changed a lot of things about how Florentino views the player.
And yes, 50-60 million euros is a lot of money for a 30 year old player with an expiring contract, and there are a lot of reporters in the Spanish press who are relaying that Real Madrid are trying to get him for under 50 million euros, even 40 million euros.
But Manchester City are also perfectly happy to wind down Rodri's contract than rather fulfill the player's Santiago Bernabeu wishes. That is because they know Rodri for one season is worth 50-60 million euros, because, as he showed by winning the World Cup for Spain this summer and totally dominating both the French and Argentinian midfields, he can make up for more than that money by elevating a team to going further in the Champions League - and we all know each round is worth a ton of money in and of itself.
The more time passes, the more it seems like Real Madrid are serious about landing their hands on this golde midfield transfer.
