The ever-reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano said that he would not be surprised if he ever sees Erling Haaland play for a top Spanish club. The situation with Manchester City's legal charges in the last few weeks has obviously raised the question about the future of some of their superstar players. The biggest player they have is Erling Haaland, who may want to leave if the sanction is a really big one. If that happens, he could actually play in Spain, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid being in the picture for him.

Romano was bombarded with messages about him, and he talked about the Norwegian player's future and whether something like this is a possibility or not. He said, "If you ask me, if one day we will see Haaland play in a top Spanish club, then I would say Real Madrid and Barcelona have wanted Haaland since his Borussia Dortmund days. It would not surprise me if it happens in the future."

That is a lot of news to handle. That is a big update to handle with regard to Haaland. Obviously, there have been no contacts yet, not even slightly, because at the moment Haaland has a very long contract at Manchester City. If something happens and Haaland decides to leave Man City for another club, it could lead him to Spain. It is something that Real Madrid fans will obviously love: having an actual number nine play as a number nine of the team, and it's going to be very interesting if a move ever happens.

Erling Haaland surprisingly makes more sense for Real Madrid than Barcelona

People will obviously say that Barcelona are playing without a natural striker as well, and that they would need Haaland more than Real Madrid. To those people, the statistics should be the answer. It is a very small sample size, but Barcelona are completely outperforming Real Madrid in front of goal this season, and it’s not even close.

They have not looked this fluid in a very long time, and Raphinha has been playing at an unbelievable level as a striker for them. If they now move on to signing another striker, obviously it would still work really well for them. But would that mean they actually really need Haaland? Probably not. If they continue scoring as many goals as they are, why would they want to change their entire system and bring in a striker to make things less fluid and more strict in terms of positioning?  Right now, Raphinha can drop into the wing if he needs to, and everything works seamlessly for them.

With Real Madrid, all of their players apart from Mbappe have been struggling in front of goal. If Vinicius Junior does not improve as a football player in the next couple of years and Haaland becomes available, Real Madrid probably wouldn't hesitate in putting Mbappe on the left, having Haaland at the top, and selling Vinicius Junior to fund the Norwegian transfer. Obviously, that is very far-fetched, but it can happen, and it would definitely allow Real Madrid to be more prolific in front of goal.

All of this is way into the future, but if anyone asks you whether Barcelona need him more than Real Madrid, the answer to everyone who watches football should be clear. Romano has obviously made quite a few fans excited, so it will be interesting to follow this entire story for the foreseeable future.
