Kylian Mbappe is, once again, the man of the hour for Real Madrid, but instead of making headlines for scoring goals and breaking records as he was last season, the news on the French superstar has been far less flattering here in 2026 with Los Blancos staring down another season without a trophy.
Whlie it is true that a Real Madrid with Mbappe on the pitch has been worse than a Real Madrid without him, the discussions around Mbappe seem to be more born out of both an internal and external frustration with the club's lack of success since his hyped signing - as well as his flaws as a footballer and the context of the flaws of a squad with several other underperforming players with egoes that need to be cut down a size.
So for those thinking that this season could mark an abrupt end to Kylian Mbappe's tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu or Florentinio Perez going Benedict Arnold on his golden child whom he tried to sign for years and years, well, they had better think again.
Kylian Mbappe is safe in Madrid
As top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel, the relationship between Mbappe and Real Madrid is not at all broken. While there is indeed frustration boiling over on both sides, Fabrizio maintains that Real are not considering a sale of the French superstar whatsoever. He goes on to say that Mbappe is 100 percent for sure staying at the Santiago Bernabeu for another season.
Technically, Brazilian star Vinicius Junior is the one in a more uncertain situation since he has yet to officially sign his contract extension, but Florentino Perez does not want to lose either player and nobody sincerely expects the two time Champions League winner to leave the Bernabeu either.
Real Madrid are going to believe in their superstars for another season with a new coach, and Perez isn't going to give up on Mbappe and Friends (or Frenemies) for at least one more year. The solution from Papa Perez's perspective is to bring in a bigger character in the locker room than young managers Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, in the hopes that a forceful manager with a weight of trophies behind their name like Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp can right the ship.
But in no uncertain terms, Mbappe is staying at Real Madrid. Los Blancos are not contemplating the sale of the player, and they want to, as of now, make it work no matter what.
