Real Madrid superstar center midfielder Jude Bellingham had a tremendous 2026 World Cup, shattering records with six goals from the middle of the park for the England national team while bagging back to back braces in carrying the Three Lions to Round of 16 and quarterfinal wins over Mexico and Norway, respectively.
England would have been a train wreck without Jude, who was by far their best player. He was their best progressor of the ball, arguably their best creator alongside Declan Rice, arguably their best ball winner alongside Djed Spence, and arguably their best goal scorer alongside Harry Kane.
But neither Kane nor Bellingham could make the difference for England in their 2-1 collapse to rivals Argentina in the semifinals, as the enigmatic manager Thomas Tuchel once again reared his ugly head and even uglier ego with a gutless defensive coaching performance for the ages, taking the ball completely out of the equation for either Jude or Kane in the end.
Thomas Tuchel is no friend to England
As England fans rightfully lambast Tuchel for more coaching malpractice, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the English FA has no intention of moving on from the German manager despite no real improvement from the Gareth Southgate days under him. Fab says that Tuchel and England fully intend on continuing together despite the defeat to Argentina and that Tuchel will coach the Three Lions at the 2028 European Championships.
It is brutal news for Jude Bellingham, in particular. From the moment Thomas Tuchel stepped foot on the grounds as the new England coach, he made it clear that he was not a fan of Jude's, once infamously referring to Bellingham's attitude as "repulsive", which is probably the word most fans would use for Tuchel's own boorish sideline antics and cowardly coaching philosophy.
Although Bellingham and Tuchel share the commonality of being at Borussia Dortmund in the past, there has been no love gained between the two sides. Tuchel nearly left Bellingham off the World Cup squad and seemed to throw him to the media fire on purpose, and even after his heroic performance against Norway, Jude and Tuchel clashed heads over Tuchel bizarrely criticizing his team's performance in the gutsy 2-1 victory in extra time.
Tuchel continuing is not great news for Bellingham - or the England team, for that matter - at all despite Tuchel begrudgingly accepting that Jude is the star to build the team around. Because he certainly did not make use of his star with the game on the line, to the frustration of everyone - and especially Jude himself.
