Real Madrid have bigger needs than another forward, as another center back transfer and a new center midfielder are the priorities for many Madridistas. It appears Real, though, are backing away from their pursuit of another midfielder, but they still have designs on Florentino Perez's ultimate dream option Michael Olise, even as many executives at the club believe a deal for the Frenchman is truly impossible in 2026.

The top center midfielder linked to Real Madrid, Enzo Fernandez, has now fallen off the table entirely after the Merengues released a statement similar to the one about Olise, stating that they are not after the player at all. Most people saw past the Olise one, viewing it as a means to appease Bayern Munich while working quietly in the background to recruit the star right winger. So naturally, some Madridistas had hopes that the midfielder deemed Jose Mourinho's top choice would still be on the radar.

However, Fabrizio Romano has pointed out something important about the difference in the verbiage and intention behind the two statements on Olise and Enzo. In the case of the Chelsea star, Real Madrid made it clear they are not currently interested in him, nor are they interested in signing him in the future. But with Olise, Real Madrid only said they re not in current talks with him but said nothing of their future interest in the Ballon d'Or candidate.

Real Madrid are still all for Michael Olise

Romano said, via the Madrid Zone, "There is a difference in the statements Real Madrid made about Enzo Fernandez and Michael Olise. For Enzo, they made it clear, they are not interested, and they will not sign him. For Olise, they only said that they are not in talks with him and his agents, out of respect for Bayern. They did it to make sure the relationship with Bayern remains excellent. Real Madrid love Michael Olise, and Florentino Pérez loves him. Real Madrid keep thinking of Michael Olise, whether it's in the present or future."

While some Real Madrid fans will be sad that the club are not going after Enzo Fernandez as an upgrade at the No. 6, the majority will agree that he is not worth the money if he is going to cost almost double Aurelien Tchouameni or more than double of Eduardo Camavinga.

And they will be even happier that Michael Olise is still a target and not someone they ruled out despite the statement. Olise is a truly special player on the wings as a playmaker, scorer, progressor, and one on one dribbler. He is a player who can make a difference and bring Real Madrid back to a front three on the level of the old BBC.
