The legendary Luka Modric is no longer playing for Real Madrid after Xabi Alonso and the club surprisingly decided to move on from the veteran center midfielder, and the Croatian magician still proved he has it by performing better than any other AC Milan midfielder and ranking among the best in his position in Serie A last season despite the Rossoneri being a pretty shoddy team under Max Allegri.
Ruben Amorim has now taken over at Milan, and while there were some conversations about Modric's future, it is clear that Milan and Amorim want the player to stay. They have expressed as much to Lukita after his retirement from the Croatia national team following their World Cup Round of 32 elimination against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.
Modric has not yet decided his future in Milano, but Fabrizio Romano is reporting that AC Milan are confident they can get a new deal done for the 40 year old center midfielder. Romano says that Amorim called Modric yet again to explain to him his important role in the tactics. Per Fab, Modric's "final verdict" will be arriving to Milan soon, as he wants to make his decision with his family.
Real Madrid fans want to see Modric playing
Even though Luka Modric is playing for a European giant that is not Real Madrid, most Madridistas don't mind him playing for Milan, who have no rivalry with the Merengues and have a shared respect between the clubs based on history and some of the legends who have been at both like Ronaldo Nazario, Ricardo Kaka, and Carlo Ancelotti.
Plus, seeing Modric still playing at the highest level of Europe or just playing in general is better than seeing him retired. Modric is an important part of the memories of Madridistas, and he is still a wonderful, high class midfielder to watch.
Real Madrid fans have already waved goodbye to a lot of retired legends in their lives, and most of the big stars of the three peat Champions League era are either retired like Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale or not playing football at the highest level of Europe like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
So still seeing Modric at a club like Milan would be ideal, and he proved in the 2025/26 Serie A season that he is still a top midfielder. Nobody has high hopes for Ruben Amorim after watching him at Manchester United, but there is nowhere for Modric and Milan to go but up after the debacle that was Max Allegri.
