Real Madrid are after RB Leipzig star winger Yan Diomande, who is one of the best players in the world in his role despite only being 19 and coming off just one season at the highest level. Los Blancos did not originally have Diomande at the top of their list, but they were always admirers and now they have made him their No. 1 focus suddenly on the transfer market.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the request for Diomande as a target, evidently as an alternative to the previous top Galactico of Florentino Perez's which was Michael Olise, was approved by Jose Mourinho. And there was something specific about Diomande that made Mourinho request the young Ivory Coast international: Mourinho wants his speed.
Diomande has great technical skill and is already one of the most gifted players on the ball in the world, which is obvious with how hard he practices. And he works hard on defense, takes players on at a high level, and scores and assists, too, with 20 goal contributions last season on an otherwise entirely ordinary RB Leipzig side.

But that dynamic Real Madrid need on the right wing is speed. Arda Guler, Franco Mastantuono, and Brahim Diaz are all left footers who have been tried there, but they are far too slow to be wingers at Real Madrid. And even Rodrygo Goes is not all that fast himself - he is more quick in short areas rather than a speed burner - and after his ACL tear, nobody really knows what he can give. Yan Diomande brings a totally different dynamic, and Jose Mourinho wanting the speed he brings tells you how he wants to play. He wants Real Madrid to play fast on the break and beat teams with athleticism and dynamism, which is exactly what he did the first time around 15 years ago as the Real Madrid manager.
Everything about Diomande screams Real Madrid superstar. His confidence, attitude, quality on the ball, intelligence, technical ability, heart, determination, and, yes, his speed and athleticism. Madrid's best wingers were Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Angel Di Maria was also a great player known for his speed. Diomande needs to be that perfect partner across from Vinicius Junior to burn defenses up.
