Although there are conflicting reports on what exactly went down between Real Madrid star center midfielders Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, it seems like the tensions that boiled over into an ugly physical altercation that led to Fede suffering a concussion were the result of months of bad blood between two very talented, very important, and very underperforming players in this squad.
Real Madrid have been a massive disappointment on the pitch these last two seasons and a disgrace off it, and instead of rallying the troops and coming together as one, Real Madrid are becoming more and more divided - and scapegoating different managers has only exposed the real problem behind it all, which is the players and their egoes and lack of accountability.
The real men and leaders of Madrid are gone, and the next generation is severely disappointing. Fede, Tchou, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and pretty much every other important figure in the squad besides David Alaba and Thibaut Courtios have not covered themselves in glory or shown strength of character.
Real Madrid won't fire the two stars
For their roles in the awful brouhaha that took place in the locker room, Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde are both going to be severely punished. But though there was speculation that they could be placed on the shopping list as Real contemplate cleaning house a little with all the problems in the locker room, it looks like both men will be able to avoid the worst possible punishment.
According to a report from El Mundo, via Madrid Xtra, Real Madrid have internally ruled out the sale of either Valverde or Tchouameni, surmising that the two players are too important. Reportedly, though, Fede will suffer a worse punishment than Tchou, because even though he was the one injured in the fight, he is seen as the aggressor and is held to a higher standard as a captain.
It makes sense for Real Madrid to not want to view this fight, which had fault on both sides, as a fireable offense for either. That's especially becaues between the two of them, Tchouameni is more expendable, and it sounds like he was not the main aggressor in all of this.
But regardless, neither Valverde nor Tchouameni can look back at this as a bullet dodged. They are both going to be suspended significantly by the club, and they need to take a long look in the mirror. Neither man has played up to his level this season, and Valverde, in particular, needs to be carrying himself better, especially since he was viewed as a problem child, even publicly, during the saga that cost Xabi Alonso his job.
