Real Madrid have made it no secret that Jose Mourinho is their coach of choice to take over for Alvaro Arbeloa, and although Arbeloa is popular with some key members of the locker room and members of the board room, he is not necessarily universally loved behind the scenes (though most people who dislike him are also the typical disgruntled employees who are not playing well at all).

The most important thing, though, is that Florentino Perez wants a change, and what Flo says goes around these parts. Arbeloa will make way for the legendary manager who once coached him in the early 2010s, as Perez believes the big man is the last one who can potentially save a project built around Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe together.

It appears Mourinho is incredibly close to being officially named the next Real Madrid manager. Top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has chimed in with his reporting on the situation, stating that talks between Mou and Los Merengues are now moving forward to the "final stages" and "progressing well". But he does state that Florentino Perez still has to give his "final approval" and will likely wait until after the recent reelections he announced. Romano ends the report by stating Mourinho is "ready" for a move.

It's only a matter of time before Mourinho is confirmed

So at this point, the reporting from journalists in Spain and now Romano makes it evident that it is merely a matter of time until Jose Mourinho is confirmed the next Real Madrid manager, because it looks like both parties are in agreement and getting ready to finalize the contract and details.

Mourinho wants to have control of the locker room. He would like to have a say in the positions Real Madrid address in the transfer market to help him win, but his main issue isn't control in the front office, but rather being able to focus on who starts and who doesn't without any meddling from Perez and the board room.

Sometimes that is easier said than done at a club like Real Madrid where the president is so powerful, but if anyone can successfully get that in writing, then it is Mourinho, with all that he has accomplished in world football, including at Real Madrid. And especially after what happened to Xabi Alonso and even Alvaro Arbeloa, that sort of control over coaching decisions really should be the bare minimum that the next Real Madrid manager receives.
