Five Real Madrid players once seen as vital may not stay after this window

Real Madrid have hired Xabi Alonso for a new project. They’ve been signing Galacticos from all over the world, but the coaching project has to be the biggest anchor for such an ambitious plan.

There is a lot to admire about Xabi Alonso, but the thing I value most is that he prioritizes the team’s overall output and production above all else.

No matter how big a player’s name may be, if the team performs better without him, Xabi won’t hesitate to drop him.

This summer transfer window is far from over. There could be more signings, and possibly even more departures. If players are to leave tomorrow, there are at least five names Real Madrid will be eager to move on.

Real Madrid want three players out, and are doubtful about two

According to a report by Diario AS, the club is open to the departures of David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo, and is uncertain about the futures of Dani Ceballos and Endrick.

Real Madrid tried to present a lucrative offer to David Alaba to encourage him to leave this summer, but the player refused.

Ferland Mendy, meanwhile, is trailing behind Fran Garcia in the race to become backup left-back to Alvaro Carreras. It should be clear to Madrid that keeping three left-backs is unnecessary, especially when the third choice does not fit the manager’s vision at all.

Rodrygo’s situation does not need much elaboration. It is complicated, and it would be best for the player to leave. Madrid are fully open to selling him if a suitable offer arrives.

The situation becomes more uncertain with Ceballos and Endrick.

Ceballos’s role is undefined, yet he remains important to Xabi. We saw this in the Club World Cup, where he was regularly substituted in during the closing minutes to help settle the game and maintain control of possession.

However, if Madrid sign a new midfielder, which they are aiming to do, Ceballos will likely be the first name to be cut. He has not ruled out a return to Real Betis.

Endrick finds himself at a crossroads, deciding between accepting a demotion to third-choice striker, after being second last season, or leaving in search of regular minutes that could help him break into Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad.

All in all, these five names do not have a secure future at Real Madrid today. And with the transfer window open until the end of August, much could still change.
