Real Madrid had a tumultuous 2025/26 season in all competitions, failing to win any trophies for a second straight season, which constitutes a crisis so severe that it is almost akin to the melt down Tottenham Hotspur had at facing Premier League relegation, but such is the standard set at the venerable Santiago Bernabeu.
And pretty much every star at Real Madrid failed to meet this lofty standard in some way, hence the horrible season. No moment epitomized just how fractured and malignant things have devolved behind the scenes in the two years since the supposed Power of Friendship guided them to the Champions League under Carlo Ancelotti than the physical fight between Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde that sent the latter to the hospital.
Neither star midfielder came out of that incident looking good. Accusations of Tchouameni as the mole only grew, while Valverde came off in media reports as the aggressor and someone who may not be fit to be a Real Madrid captain.
Florentino Perez is not interested in a shake up
Amidst ongoing transfer speculation around these two starting players, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez addressed their futures in definitive terms during a speech in prepartion for his own future elections against Enrique Riquelme.
Papa Perez said of Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde, via Madrid Xtra, “Valverde and Tchouaméni will stay? For me, yes, of course.”
Everyone can see just how much Florentino Perez favors the players, and Fede and Tchou are two of those favored players. Fede has been crucial to two Champions League titles and three La Liga crownd, a decisive factor in turning the 2019/20 and 2021/22 tides in Madrid's favor. Meanwhile, Tchou has won Champions League to his name, though he has not made nearly the same impact as the Uruguayan international.
Between the two of them, Fede has caught more heat, but he is also the more successful player. Tchouameni is the one with a more worrisome future, so he will be especially relieved to hear the all powerful president give him his blessing that he will not be sold. Tchouameni is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world on paper, and Real Madrid fans would hate to see him blossom at a Champions League rival like Liverpool or even Manchester United.
Anything can change between now and the end of the summer transfer window, but, for now, Madridistas can consider these two midfielders safe from a transfer.
