The fallout from the locker room incident between Real Madrid stars Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni is still far from over, and there appear to be players using the media to further a campaign against Fede to strip him of the captaincy after whatever went down. Reports in the media painted Fede as the aggressor in all of this, though Fede did pay for his apparent crimes by going to the hospital with a concussion.

And now he could pay with the captaincy - and there are even rumors that some players want him sold this summer. Most Real Madrid fans are looking at these rumors with cyncism due to all the leaks and infighting, and there is a school of thought that Kylian Mbappe stands to gain the most from Fede, who may be an enemy of his after the saga early in the season, losing the captaincy or being sold.

A big demand floated around by the players in the media (or maybe it was just Mbappe, who really knows at this point) is a change in the rules of the captaincy, to take it away from being seniority based to a captaincy voted on by the players.

Real Madrid might change their captaincy rule

According to a report from MARCA, via Madrid Xtra, Florentino Perez and the board of directors are seriously going to discuss changing the captain rule from seniority to voting based. On the surface, it's not that big of a deal since most other clubs don't use the seniority rule, but, well, Real Madrid are not like most other clubs.

The seniority rule has been a pillar at the club and never questioned. It has probably shielded the club from problems, because if you are at Real Madrid for long enough, then you are bound to be a great leader. Things have changed now because so many legends have left at around the same time, leading to a unique situation where the locker room is full of new players who are unfamiliar, and the most senior player, Dani Carvajal, is now a backup and disgruntled himself.

With moving to voting based, though, that opens up more factions and favoritism, as well as in fighting from players with those seeking power, like Kylian Mbappe, from the captaincy doing whatever they can to take it. And that may be what we are seeing here. No fan wants this rule to change; they just want the players to stop fighting and actually care about the right things like winning.
