Real Madrid president Florentino Perez announced an impromptu press conference, and although the show went off the rails pretty quickly as Flo responded to perceived attacks from the media, the big takeaway was the challenge that he threw down to any and all comers. Perez announced reelections for his presidency, offering the opportunity for anyone to show that they can beat him in an election if they think they can do a better job than him.

There is one potential challenger emerging to fight Perez, and that is Enrique Riquelme. Nothing is confirmed, but he is the one everyone is watching to give Perez a battle for the presidency. And to prepare, Perez is already coming up with plans to show the Madridistas what he is capable of.

According to a report from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, the first and the one that is already in the works is the reunion with the Special One, Jose Mourinho, as the new Real Madrid manager to replace interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa, who took over from failed hire Xabi Alonso. And the second is also in the works, which is the reunion with legendary center midfielder Toni Kroos, who is on the verge of being confirmed in a front office role with the club to kick off his career outside the pitch.

Enzo Fernandez is the man on the list

The third plan of Perez's is an actual signing to help the sporting side, and that is Chelsea defensive midfielder Enzo Fernandez. With Rodri close to extending with Manchester City and seemingly not someone Florentino Perez is high on, the younger Fernandez has been openly flirting with Real Madrid this season as well and is a very achievable signing if Perez is willing to pay Todd Boehly what he wants for his former record signing from Benfica.

Fernandez, a World Cup winner, is a great goal scorer from midfield, capable of screening the defense more effectively than the stagnating Aurelien Tchouameni, and is a much better quailty deep lying passer than any of the current Real Madrid crop (except maybe Arda Guler).

If Enzo is indeed a priority of Perez's to flex his might as the president with reelections looming, then expect this deal to get done this summer as the blockbuster move in the midfield. Real Madrid fans will want to see big moves to upgrade the defense, too, but Enzo is one of the few financial gambles worth Los Blancos taking this year.
