Real Madrid are at a very weirdly chaotic point in their recent history. These elections have shown Real Madrid fans a lot of what they are being offered, how much of it is true and false, and what comes next.
And it has done a lot of other stuff, which has made Florentino Perez more and more hungry for success. He still wants to see the club go into a new, big chapter in football, and he wants to continue leading it to that.
Perez already announced the signing of Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate and manager Jose Mourinho, but it was reported early in the week that he was not done there. It was said that Perez was going to announce a major signing on Thursday.
Florentino Perez's €150 million Galactico tease has Real Madrid fans dreaming
He announced Dumfries, but he also talked about something else. He promised Real Madrid fans that he would bid €150 million for a 'Galactico'-level signing on Tuesday.
He did not announce the player's name, but what he did say was who it isn't.
It isn't Michael Olise. It isn't Harry Kane. It isn't a defender. It isn't Erling Haaland. It isn't Jeremy Doku - although it is a bit random that he had to mention that - in fact, this superstar does not play in the Premier League at all.
It is a midfielder or forward, playing in one of the Champions League clubs. When asked whether Real Madrid even need an attacker with the likes of Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe, Perez simply said: "Well, at Real Madrid, you always look for more."
It is difficult to narrow down to one specific player that Perez may be referring to. Serie A does not really have a player who is worth that amount. Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich is talented, but it doesn't make sense to sign him, because Real Madrid already have many players in that position.
Then you have Ligue 1 and La Liga. It probably will not be a player from La Liga, but if it was, the only one worth €150 million and attainable is Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid would probably not sell him to Real Madrid, though. Obivously, nor would Barcelona.
Then it leaves the big three from Paris. PSG have some brilliant players, and there are three that Perez could potentially be talking about: Desire Doue, Joao Neves and Vitinha.
Whether the club would be able to even convince PSG to sell one of their superstars is a seperate topic, and there are plenty of players at that club they would rather sell than those three. The problem is none of them warrant 150 million, which makes the choice narrow itself down.
It remains to be seen what happens on Tuesday, and the player that will be announced, but these elections have been entertaining, even if, sometimes, for the wrong reasons.
