Even though Kylian Mbappe is the golden child of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his great obsession for years before finally bringing him in for free in 2024 after he had burned all his bridges in Paris, even somewhere deep down Florentino has to acknowledge that things are not going great for the Frenchman in the Spanish capital.
Mbappe finished the season very poorly over the past few months and wasted more chances than any other top forward in world football last season, posting a conversion rate lower than the likes of failed Real Madrid transfers Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz. And that's not even getting into the awful defending and off the ball work that Luis Enrique had lamented in Ligue 1.
Real Madrid need more from Mbappe, and while they hope that Jose Mourinho can get it out of him, Florentino has a new obsession in the attack to complete a trident with Mbappe and Vinicius Junior that will hopefully get everyone to play better.
Michael Olise does not have attitude concerns
The Real Madrid president is now locked in on Michael Olise as the new promised Galactico for the club's fans this summer. Per a report from Fabrizio Romano, via the Madrid Zone, Florentino Perez sees Olise as a true superstar in world football. And given he is a prime Ballon d'Or candidate after breaking Lionel Messi's assist record in a single season, he's right on the money.
What is interesting is what else Fab is reporting about Flo's views on Olise. He thinks that not only does Olise have the stats and quality of a superstar, but that he, maybe most importantly, as the attitude of a superstar at Real Madrid.
Given all the drama that happened at Real Madrid last season, that is a massive deal and a little dig at Kylian Mbappe, who had a recent blow up after the Real Oviedo game after not starting and has been increasingly the subject of much frustration behind the scenes. And given how close Jose Mourinho and Alvaro Arbeloa are, Mou undoubtedly got the real scoop on Mbappe and how hard he is to work with.
Olise is nothing like that at all. He is a cool customer who avoids attention, does not care about his own stats, and just plays great ball. Those are the best players in Real Madrid history like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Zinedine Zidane, and Karim Benzema. Real Madrid want to get back to that again, and Olise falls in line. If he is so into Olise's attitude, that may be a subtle sign that Florentino is not too thrilled of the drama of the Frenchman currently leading his line.
