Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano are two of the best transfere reporters in the business, and they made headlines between each other with a bit of an ugly and totally unprofessional spat between journalists on social media. The crux of the issue was Yan Diomande, as Fabrizio had reported a Here We Go for the Ivory Coast international moving to Real Madrid for over 100 million euros whereas Pletti denied it, stating no deal could be agreed and seemed frustrated that Fab reported such a thing.
At this point, Real Madrid fans are taking the Diomande deal for granted, and it seems like, with another angry statement to L'Equipe, PSG are doing so as well. It was very quick between when Real first went for Diomande and the deal got done, per Fab, so there is some room for skepticism.
In his latest transfer update, Florian Plettenberg is reporting along with his Sky Sports Germany colleague Philipp Hinze that there is "still no final agreement" between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig over the 19 year old winger. Pletti says all parties have confirmed this news to him. He adds that Leipzig are demanding over 120 million euros in total and high guarantees, along with other complexities of the deal that are making it drag for Real Madrid.
Yan Diomande is still not a done deal
Plettenberg said, "There is still no final agreement between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande. Confirmed by all parties involved. Unless something extraordinary happens before midnight, negotiations will continue tomorrow morning. RB are demanding at least €120 million, with a very high guaranteed fee. Today’s main sticking point was Real’s complex and difficult-to-achieve bonus structure. Deal still on."
Real Madrid fans, though, will hang on to those last three words that Florian Plettenberg wrote: "deal still on". Because for Madridistas, Diomande wants the club so much and the club are so intent on signing him for Jose Mourinho that Fabrizio Romano calling it a done deal for more than 100 million euros and the only hitches seemingly being the details still have Madridistas highly optimistic the deal will be sealed, even if it has not officially been done.
Los Blancos will go for Rodri once the Yan Diomande deal is sealed, and whlie a lot of people are criticizing the fee, the 120 million euros is nothing less than what RB Leipzig would accept anyway. And though PSG are sour grapes about the fee, they just didn't make the deal. Now, Real are close to doing so, though the drama remains with Plettenberg maintaining nothing is closed. Madridistas will hope there is no last minute collapse here.
