Over the recent years we have seen a shift in the managerial world, as a rising number of teams hiring younger coaches and building their future projects around them. You've got Xabi Alonso at Chelsea, Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich, and Cesc Fabregas at Como, all of whom are still in their late 30s and early 40s. It seems that the younger manager is the new direction clubs are going when they are searching the market, and according to recent reports, Real Madrid's former assistant coach is in line for his first European head coaching role.
As being reported by MadridUniversal on X, Davide Ancelotti has reached an agreement with French side Lille to become their new manager. The 36-year-old will be replacing manager Bruno Genesio who is strongly linked with making the switch to Marseille in the summer. Lillle finished third in Ligue 1 this season, enough to qualify them for the Champions League next season, meaning once again, we will have an Ancelotti on the touchline on European nights.
The next Ancelotti to conquer Europe is on the rise
This will be Davide's first head coaching role in Europe but not first head coaching role overall. He was in charge at Botafogo in Brazil last year from July to December, before being dismissed after a sixth place finish in the league. Davide won 15 of his 33 games in charge at the Brazilian side, drawing 11 and losing only seven matches. He returned to his father's coaching staff afterwards with the Brazilian National Team for a bit, but now Lille have come calling with an offer that is too good for him to turn down.
Davide has been by his father Carlo's side for many years now, having served as his assistant coach with all of Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, Real Madrid, and the Brazilian National Team. After year's as his father's understudy, the 36-year-old is ready to jump back into the head coaching game and use all the knowledge he has gained during his time as Carlo's assistant.
For Davide a club like Lille is a great place to get your feet wet as a manager in a major European League. The French side have a solid squad and are a parenial top three or four team every season, and will be playing in the Champions League next season, giving Davide the chance to pull out a few surprise against some big European sides.
It's safe to say all Real Madrid fans wish Davide the best as he embarks on this big step in his career. The Italian always showed passion for Real Madrid during his time at the club and even though he was just an assistant, he still holds a special place in the hearts of all Real Madrid fans for the part he played in the success Los Blancos had during Carlo Ancelotti's time in charge.
