Former Real Madrid player could return in January

Real Madrid have an issue at centre-back right now. That is not a secret to anyone. Eder Militao recently suffered an ACL injury that has ruled him out for the season. David Alaba is yet to recover from his own issue, which he picked up in the previous campaign. The club never replaced Nacho Fernandez, who left in the summer. And finally, Dani Carvajal and Aurelien Tchouameni, two players who have filled in the heart of defence in the past when needed, are out of action too.

So, all things considered, Carlo Ancelotti has been put in a tight spot. And one can only hope that Real Madrid sign a centre-back in the January transfer window.

They have been linked with a move for Sergio Ramos. But it is another centre-back that the club might be interested in bringing back instead.

As reported by Fichajes, Rafa Marin is one of the options that Real Madrid are considering to strengthen its defence. After spending the last few months at Napoli, where he has barely played 90 minutes, his return to Santiago Bernabeu is seen as a possible and, for many, a necessary solution.

Marin joined Napoli in the summer. It was viewed as the next step in his career. But so far, things have not gone according to expectations in Italy.

Marin has played in just one game for Napoli, that too in the cup. Naturally, it is not hard to see why the idea of a return to Real Madrid could appeal to him, especially with a spot in the starting XI pretty much up for grabs.

Marin came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but never actually managed to make a senior appearance for the club. Could he get a second chance at Santiago Bernabeu amid the club's injury troubles? We shall find out soon.
