When a new manager arrives at a club, no matter what your status in the team is, every player has to win over the manager and convince them they belong as part of their project and that can be said for a number of Real Madrid players this summer under new manager Jose Mourinho. One player in particular that has to win over Mourinho is Franco Mastantuono. The Argentine is looking to bounce back from a frankly disappointing season, and if he doesn't win over the manager, the club has already made their decision about his future.
As being reported by MadridUniversal on X, after much thinking, Real Madrid has finally made their decision on Franco Mastantuono's future, and if he manages to convince Jose Mourinho and no new right-winger arrives this summer he'll stay at the club, however if he fails to convince the manager, he will leave on loan to develop elsewhere.
Mastantuono has to do all he can to stay at the Bernabeu
The 18-year-old arrived at the Bernabeu last summer for a fee that can reach upwards of €60 million after a breakout performance with River Plate at the FIFA Club World Cup. The Argentine arrived with high expectations on his shoulders and unfortunately for the teenager, meeting those expectations proved to be too difficult of a task. He struggled to make much of an impact when given the opportunity, only managing three goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.
He saw the pitch regularly under Xabi Alonso but his game time became almost non existant under Arbeloa, but now with Jose Mourinho at the helm he is being given a new lease on life to win over the manager and secure his place in the squad for the 26/27 season.
Mastantuono still faces an uphill battle however after standout World Cup performances from the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Brahim Diaz, as well as Endrick set to return from his loan with Lyon and Rodrygo expected back from his torn ACL at some point this season, so when taking all this into consideration, the Argetine still may not have a place in the attack even if he were to win over Mourinho during the pre-season.
At the end of the day there's no denying Mastantuono has all the potential in the world to be an impact player at Real Madrid, but at 18-years-old he's still a very raw talent and even if he does win over Mourinho, a loan spell would be the best move for his career. Getting regular minutes at another La Liga club or somewhere like a Bundesliga team would be much better in this early stage of his career than sitting on the bench at the Bernabeu.
