Even though Luka Modric plays for another historic European power in Italian giants AC Milan, Real Madrid fans will always support the Croatian magician to the death and were saddened when the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 was his last World Cup match of his career - though they were happy to see Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo go through in that nail biter.
There has been talk of Modric retiring from more than just international football with Croatia, as Milan had some worries about the center midfielder calling it quits after the 2025/26 Serie A season instead of re-signing a new contract with the Rossoneri.
But while the 2025/26 campaign was a difficult one for Milan, who did not make the Champions League with terrible management from a finished Max Allegri, Modric had an excellent season. He was probably Milan's best player and definitely one of the top midfielders in Serie A.
Luka Modric will still bless the world
New Milan manager Ruben Amorim has been doing his best day and night to convince Luka Modric to stay, and it looks like his efforts have paid off. Sky Sport Italia's top transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, a veteran of the game, has confirmed that Lukita will be staying. Milan are "very close" to finalizing the details on the new contract. There will be no retirement for Modric.
It will be Modric's second season with AC Milan after leaving Real Madrid last summer, and Madridistas are still torn to bits about not having the Croatian legend as a veteran hand in the midfield, even if in only a backup role. But Modric deserves to start for a top team in Europe and proved last season in the Italian top flight that he is still more than good enough to do so. His next goal will be to take Milan back to the Champions League where a club of their great stature belongs.
For Real Madrid fans, it is great news that Modric will still be playing and that Madridistas can still watch him most weeks, even if it is not in Royal White colors. Players like Modric deserve to be in the top level of Europe as long as possible, and after watching Manchester United boot Cristiano Ronaldo off that stage prematurely, Madridistas are glad to see that Modric will get to continue with the full blessing of Milan and Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim in the 2026/27 season.
