For Real Madrid this summer, just as important as the new arrivals is departures of players who no longer have a place in the squad. The club has sold a number of youngster, which is great, but there are still a number of surplus players in the squad that the club needs to sell to make room for all of Jose Mourinho's new arrivals. Thankfully for Real Madrid fans, Fabrizio Romano has just announced the sale of one player who is no longer in the clubs plans.

As announced by Fabrizio Romano on X, Real Madrid have completed the sale of left-back Fran Garcia to Real Betis, in a deal worth only €4 million, however Real Madrid will retain a 50% sell-on clause for any future sale. Garcia's medical has been booked with the La Liga side, with the fullback set to say goodbye to Real Madrid after three seasons with the club.

Fran Garcia says goodbye to Real Madrid

Fran Garcia returned to the club in the summer of 2023 after spending three years at Rayo Vallecano, and after an impressive time with Rayo, he returned to the Bernabeu with high expectations, expectations he unfortunately never really lived up to. He made 109 appearances in his three years at Real Madrid, grabbing three goals and 13 assists, and was part of the incredible 23/24 double winning season, but he failed to be the difference maker many were expecting him to be.

Ferland Mendy tended to be called on by the manager in the big matches, and the club brought in Alvaro Carreras last summer, and now Marc Cucurella this summer, meaning Fran Garcia's place in the squad would be nonexistent resulting in his sale.

For Real Madrid selling Fran Garcia is a positive, however the could have been much better for Real Madrid if they acted earlier. The club reportedly received a €30 million offer from Premier League side Bournemouth back in January, however for some reason the club turned it down and have now settled for just €4 million. The 50% sell-on clause could come in handy in the future, however in hindsight the €30 million offer was the far better deal for Real Madrid.

There's no denying Fran Garcia is a good player, he just wasn't good enough for Real Madrid and there's nothing wrong with that. He's still only 26-years-old so he still has his whole career ahead of him, and to join a team like Real Betis that fits his playing style well, he could have a career revival in Seville and could even come back to haunt Los Blancos when the two meet this season.
