Over the last number of years, Real Madrid have been pulling off a masterclass in the transfer market. The club has been signing some of the best players in the world for either relatively low fees by today's standards or signing them as free agents, which has been the most impressive part.

In recent years the club has signed players like Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all as free agents which has allowed the club to invest that money elsewhere in the team, while also signing key players for the future without paying a fee.

Given how successful this strategy has been, the club always has their eyes on the market to see if any top players are out of contract and try to recruit them to the biggest club in the world. As we have seen, when Real Madrid come knocking, it is hard to say no.

While on paper the Real Madrid squad looks complete, the club are still assessing the options at central defender and they have their eyes on one of the Premier League's top defenders, who luckily for Los Blancos is a free agent next summer.

Latest Ibrahima Konate update is good news for Real Madrid's future transfer plans

As being reported by The Guardian, Ibrahima Konate has been offered a new extension at Liverpool but is unhappy with the terms and has rejected the proposal. His current deal with the Premier League side expires next summer.

The report claims the Frenchman is looking for a wage increase with performance based incentives but the club has not met his demands, which has caused him to reject the offer and consider his options for the future.

Konate has long been on the radar of Real Madrid, and the fact that he could be available for free next summer could play right into the clubs hands.

After signing Konate's former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold for free this summer, it would not be out of the realm of possibility that he play a hand is helping to bring the central defender to Real Madrid.
