The transfer market is a hula-hoop of news and rumours. Among that news also comes a great deal of rubbish, and Real Madrid, being the biggest club in the world, is highly prone to a lot of that rubbish.
The best rubbish about the most followed club in the world brings the best views. They know that.
One laughable piece of news doing the rounds a few days ago, which we didn’t even bother to cover due to its sheer absurdity, was that Barcelona had apparently expressed interest in signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid.
Really, anything can be passed off as news these days, no? Why would Real Madrid’s biggest rival ever want to sign Rodrygo? Some far-fetched angle could be drawn by comparing it to what Madrid did with Luis Figo, but Figo was Barcelona’s most important player at the time, something Rodrygo’s position is completely antithetical to.
Fabrizio Romano shuts down Barcelona rumours about Rodrygo
Fabrizio Romano is a brilliant journalist, one who is seldom wrong in his claims. And even he had to step in to clarify the baselessness of these rumours.
In a video by DAZN, Fabrizio Romano clarified that there is no basis to the claims linking Barcelona with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
He explained that Barcelona are aware of the sheer impossibility of this transfer, from both the player’s perspective and the perspective of Los Blancos.
And it’s laughable that something so basic and apparent even needed clarification.
They say, “Never say never in the transfer market,” but there is one “never” I can confidently claim to be true: Real Madrid and Barcelona will never engage in direct transfer negotiations for their players.
The rivalry and the sporting distance between the two clubs is so immense that any such transfer is out of the very question.
Rodrygo may leave, there's also a price tag on him, but he is surely not moving to Barcelona of all places.
