Real Madrid face Inter in their first game of the Champions League this season on Tuesday, and a lot of the eyes are on Jose Mourinho returning to the club where he won his last Champons League, over 16 years ago.
Mourinho also helped them win their last Champions League, and it has been a beyond impressive feat to think about ever since.
Mourinho is back at Real Madrid now, wih a healthy chip on his shoulder to achieve what he last did with Inter all those years ago, as well as take Real Madrid back to their glory days. It seems difficult, and it does not seem likely to happen right htis season, but it won’t be for a lack of trying.
Real Madrid were essentially feeling robbed after the loss to Real Betis on Friday. They were not robbed of the victory, according to Mourinho – rather, it was the chance of victory that counted, and since then, it seems Mourinho is trying to create an image of Real Madrid that he wants to see.
Mourinho talked about the players’ naivety on the pitch. He talked about how the players were too naive to ask or want for fouls when they should have been given.

In the press conference, the Portuguese manager said: “Perhaps I was misinterpreted for using the term “naïve,” but I’m not saying it as a criticism, but rather an observation. And tomorrow you’ll understand perfectly what I said. You’ll understand very easily.”
Now, it seems like he would at least try to work that in his favour, through a completely different way, and the first team the example would come down to would be his beloved Inter.
It does not mean that Real Madrid would start diving and beg for fouls all over their own stadium, but it would be considered a sense of them standing up for themselves and asking for what they think is fair.
Real Madrid would need to be intense on the pitch, and fighting with the system in this us-against-the-world sort of mentality will only push them to be greater together. Anyone can talk about his quote, but the general consensus is that Real Madrid should be more intense in the game. More emotive. More hungry, and more united. If the referees won’t stand for them in the wrong, they would have to take the fight into their own hands.
Real Madrid need a shift in mentality, and a defeat, which could, at many points, burn the belief on to the ground, is the only thing that can also pick the club back up. Hopefully, this is what Mourinho is thinking – and if it is, Inter will likely walk straight into that trap.
