Real Madrid are planning a major squad overhaul in the summer and have smartly identified the defense as the area in the squad to start with first. With the number of departures and overall drop in form of a number of player, the club has finally made the decision to bring in reinforcements and have reportedly already agreed deals for Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries at arrive in the summer, but they aren't stopping there.

Real Madrid still have a number of names on their list, with one at the top of the list being Inter Milan center-back Alessandro Bastoni. Jose Mourinho has reportedly told the club to sign the defender at all cost, however unfortunately for Real Madrid, Fabrizio Romano has dropped a bomb from Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu, and it seems Bastoni won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Chivu went on to say:

"Alessandro Bastoni will give us a lot in the future. It’s normal to see transfer stories as he’s one of the best CBs in the world.

But he’s among our top players. I know what Bastoni will give us"

Real Madrid handed major Bastoni blow

Despite having reportedly already agreed a deal to bring in Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konate, the club are still looking to bring in another central defender with Jose Mourinho's prefered candidate being Bastoni, however Inter have just thrown up the walls around Bastoni, meaning Mourinho may have to look elsewhere as he looks to reinforce his backline.

From Inter's perspective it makes complete sense why they've shut the door on any club making a move for Bastoni. The Italian is arguably Inter's best player and has played a major part in the success Inter has found over the last few years. The 27-year-old has taken home the award for Serie A defender of the year in two out of the last three years so it makes sense why the club and manager Cristian Chivu won't be wanting to part ways with the defender anytime soon.

And that is a major blow for Real Madrid and their recruitment for the summer, as Bastoni brings a number of attributes to the table that would make him the perfect option for Jose Mourinho. He's quick, good with the ball at his feet, aggressive with his tackles, is a great leader from the back, and brings winning experience having won three Serie A titles and three Copa Italia's in his time at Inter.

The summer transfer window hasn't even officially opened yet so who knows, maybe there's still an outside chance that by making an offer too good to refuse, Real Madrid could land Bastoni, but at the moment it seems Cristian Chivu will stick to his guns and Bastoni won't be going anywhere this summer.
