In many ways, Real Madrid fans had an even more vested interest in rooting for the Brazil national team at the 2026 World Cup than Spain. While Spain mostly have Barcelona stars and only new Madrid left back Marc Cucurella in their ranks, Brazil are coached by Carlo Ancelotti and bridge generations of Madridistas with Vinicius Junior, Casemiro, Endrick, and even Danilo as key players.
So it was a huge gut punch to watch Brazil lose 2-1 to Norway, torn apart by the clinical efficiency of the greatest current Galactico that Florentino Perez failed to sign, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, while Vini Jr. was left to be held back by former Barcelona and PSG star Neymar once again.
All the best plays from Brazil in this tournament and their only moments of hope came from Vinicius Jr., who swept their Man of the Match awards. The Selecao's new jewel had an insane six dribbles completed with two key passes and a foul drawn in the losing effort to Norway, cooking Borussia Dortmund star fullback Julian Ryerson.
It was an inspired performance from Vinicius Jr., but it was all for not. And Madridistas are already seeing the same ugly, uninformed, and utterly unfair takes about one of the best players in the world by the usual social media opportunists who either have no idea what they are watching or are malignant and want to use Vini's name for their own inflammatory gain.
Vinicius Jr. was excellent. The rest of the Brazil attack was not. Neymar is cooked. Anyone pretending otherwise is probably named Neymar Sr. Endrick is not ready for the moment yet. Matheus Cunha and Rayan are not at the quality of Brazil starters. Gabriel Martinelli is someone Arsenal are trying to divest from, yet he is key to Brazil. Casemiro is finished, too. There are so many problems with the defense, midfield, and the rest of the attack of Brazil that Vinicius cannot overcome alone.
That is the big problem Real Madrid fan knew was going to happen at this tournament. Vinicius Jr. would be able to carry Brazil through weaker opponents, then in the knockouts, the Selecao would befall the same fate as in past tournaments in the exact same way with Neymar as the star. Except, in this case, Vinicius Jr. would be the fall guy instead of Neymar.
The big problem with Brazil is they do not develop enough talent, they never have a good enough defense, and they leave their big superstar with all the expectations and everything to do. And then they fail. Real Madrid fans saw it coming - and so did, ironically enough, Ney himself.
