Enrique Riquelme has been clawing at Florentino Perez as best he can in a Real Madrid presidential race that pits David against Goliath, except in this case, Goliath is the one just about everyone in the Spanish capital seems to be rooting for.
With Florentino announcing Jose Mourinho as his next manager and Ibrahima Konate as his first signing officially, Riquelme went on television and waved around an Erling Haaland Real Madrid jersey, as well as, even more strikingly, a signed contract proclaiming the Norwegian superstar as his confirmed superstar signing (the other being his Manchester City teammate Rodri).
The entire thing seemed totally incredulous and fake, but with each successive report, it seems like Riquelme was not lying. Now, the latest Real Madrid insider to corroborate Riquelme's story is Cristiano Ronaldo's close friend Edu Aguirre, who is known for his big bombs from the blue on El Chiringuito.
Erling Haaland to Real Madrid seems real now
In addition to confirming that there is a release clause for the Big 3 Spanish cubs in Erling Haaland's Manchester City contrat, Aguirre offered an even crazier update to blow everything open and show that maybe Enrique Riquelme has some credibility.
Appearing on El Chiringuito, Aguirre reports that Riquelme met personally with Erling Haaland and his father, former Manchester City star Alf-Inge Haaland, in Marbella, Spain, where Haaland famously bought a home in 2022 preparing for that Madrid transfer that did not come (thanks to Kylian Mbappe).
Aguirre says that the meeting happened just this past Saturday, and "it was sealed" with a "verbal agreement" agreed in a pact between Riquelme and Haalnad that should the former win the Real Madrid elections against Florentino Perez, the latter would be confirmed as the next superstar signing for Los Galacticos 2.0.
For the Real Madrid fans who really, really do not want Kylian Mbappe to be the starting striker, Haaland would be music to their ears. And even for those who believe in Mbappe, they would not turn their noses at the player with the record for most goals in a Premier League season, especially since many fans wondered if Perez would be able to sign both Haaland and Mbappe together in 2022.
Riquelme's huge Haaland claim has real legs to it, and it sounds like the contract he was waving around could be legit. And that move from the CEO of Cox Energy could be enough to get Madridistas to wonder what else he is telling the truth about.
