With Yan Diomande pretty much already sealed, Real Madrid have now turned their full focus to the best possible defensive midfielder to sign in Rodri, who could very well be the missing piece to control games that Real have not had since Toni Kroos left in 2024 - and all the trophies ended up leaving with him in retirement.

Rodri and Real Madrid are getting closer after the club's execs and maybe even players were able to successfully convince Florentino Perez to change his mind. And Flo had no choice but to listen to the mounting voices of the fans in support of Rodri after the Spanish midfielder won the Golden Ball with dominant performances over France and Argentina.

With the Rodri deal in the works, Jose Felix Diaz of Diario AS is reporting, via the Madrid Zone, that now intead of the player's arrival being tied to someone leaving, Rodri coming to the club will give Real Madrid more ammo to push a player Jose Mourinho does not want out. And while JFD did not mention anyone by name, it is not hard to guess who the odd man out is.

Eduardo Camavinga is as good as gone

Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, and Arda Guler are all world class and untouchable, and they could all even start without Rodri. Aurelien Tchouameni may be part of some galaxy brained chess move by Florentino Perez and Jose Mourinho to extend his contract and gas him up before selling him for more to Manchester United or someone else, but it is highly unlikely Real did all that as a ploy; Mourinho seems to legitimately love Tchou, just as a No. 2 in the No. 6 to Rodri and not as the main man.

So the one player Real Madrid have been trying to sell for months and whom Jose has straight up told to leave is Eduardo Camavinga. And though Cama is a talented young player and his love for the Merengues is admirable, he has stagnated badly for two years now and is not able to play as a 6. And as an 8, he is a way, way worse player than either Fede or Jude.

When Jose Mourinho tells someone they are done at a club, then he has made up his mind and they are done. Whereas players like Franco Mastantuono, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Gonzalo Garcia have been able to convince Mou of their importance, the ball coach is only even more sour on Eduardo Camavinga. With Rodri coming in soon, Cama has been put on notice; it's time to go.
