Real Madrid have signed four players so far for manager Jose Mourinho, and they are expected to make at least three more big signings before the summer 2026 transfer window closes. No team has been as active or as swift in making decisive transfers as Madrid this summer, as Florentino Perez is intent on supporting his returning legendary manager to the fullest after the embarrassment of two straight seasons without a trophy while Barcelona won La Liga twice and PSG the Champions League both times as well.

Most of the transfer targets Real Madrid are after are defensive and in the midfield, but Real are looking at some forwards, too. Michael Olise is the Galactic prize Florentino has been dreaming of, but there are also rumblings that the club could be after a more experienced No. 9 to add more goals to the team.

Those rumblings may have just quelled on the striker front, though. Many assumed Gonzalo Garcia would be sold this summer with a buy back clause, but it looks like the fan favorite prospect won't be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu after all.

Jose Mourinho is a big fan

According to a report from top Spanish transfer insider Matteo Moretto, via Madrid Xtra, Garcia is now no longer up for sale. Jose Mourinho has stepped in and made his decision, and he is a huge fan of Garcia, his mentality, and his profile. The Portuguese manager has stopped his departure this summer and wants to be able to evaluate him and coach him this season.

It makes a ton of sense for Real Madrid to keep Gonzalo Garcia. He is the only No. 9 profile in the squad and quietly had a great 2025/26 season for Real Madrid, scoring goals at a more efficient rate than even Pichichi winner Kylian Mbappe.

Garcia is an intelligent player and a great character who works hard for the team and has wonderful positioning. With clubs around Spain like Real Sociedad interested, Real Madrid do not want to be burned even worse than they have already been in the past when selling a Castilla standout to another La Liga side.

Plus, there is not a better striker Real Madrid could get at the value than Garcia, who has future Spanish national team starter written all over him. Striker is becoming an increasingly rare position to find quality with how modern footballers are, so Garcia is a valuable man for Mourinho to have.
