Eder Militao has been called up for Real Madrid's game against Sevilla at the Bernabeu on Sunday. Jose Mourinho confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Saturday.
Militao has been unavailable for Real Madrid since before the end of last season, and it has been a long time since fans got to see him play.
He has been treating a hamstring issue that has lingered on for a very long time, but finally, the Brazilian defender is going to be back to play for Real Madrid for the first time this season.
Real Madrid will have to be incredibly cautious with Eder Militao
Mourinho will have to manage Militao's minutes as cautiously as possible because of the amount of injuries Militao has gone through in the last few years. Militao is one of Real Madrid's best defenders, if not the best, but his track record with injuries has been so bad that it does not seem like Militao will start and play a full Real game for a while.
Militao will be eased into football, but it will be good to see him get a few minutes here and there. It will also be good to hope that one day the Brazilian is able to remain injury-free for a very long time.
Obviously, with the amount of times he has been injured in the last few years, it is not yet confirmed just how much Real Madrid will get out of him this time. You would hope that it is, obviously, for a very long time, but it will be interesting to see how differently Real Madrid and the player himself manage the injury.
There is one thing for sure, though: for whatever time he will be fit, Militao will be Real Madrid's best defender. Even after two ACL injuries, he has been Real Madrid's best defender whenever he has played for the team in the last year or so. The level of talent he has is truly unmatched, and the hope is for the player to figure out a way to let go of these injury issues.
It is just a matter of how long he is able to stay fit. Luck has not been on Militao's side throughout his career. Hopefully, he has made some changes to his game as well as to the way he carries himself off the pitch, so that he's able to stay fit for a much, much longer time and can conserve this Real Madrid defence alongside Ibrahima Konate or Dean Huijsen.
