Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is obsessed with the idea of bringing in Jose Mourinho as his next manager, and Mourinho is reportedly just as excited about the prosepct of returning to a decimated Los Blancos and revive them from two straight trophyless seasons, just as he did more than a decade ago.
Perez brought up the point in a recent interview that Mourinho was the one who made Real Madrid competitive again and set the stage for the six Champions Leagues that followed, even if he was not coach for any of them, and every true Madridista understands exactly what he is saying.
And though Mourinho has not won at the elite level in many years and has faced accusations that he is finished as a Champions League winning manager, he has a chance to prove that entire narrative patently false in his return with Madrid with nothing to lose on his end. Because if he does fail, nobody will blame him; they will simply say Madrid was uncoachable to begin with.
Jose Mourinho may have chosen his three pillars
According to reporting from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, Jose Mourinho is already reaching out to Real Madrid stars, hence signaling the intention he has to get started after his time with Benfica ends and get to work. Mourinho has reportedly already spoken directly to Thibaut Courtois, VInicius Junior, and Kylian Mbappe.
The fact that these are three players he has chosen to reach out to implies that these are the three pillars of the team he wants to build around, and few could argue with that. Mbappe, despite his failings, is a massive talent, and Mourinho's biggest task as a manager is to be the first ever at the club level to actually get Mbappe to be the Michael Jordan, winner first superstar that Luis Enrique tried to pull out of him at PSG.
Meanwhile, Vinicius Jr. was the key protagonist of the Champions League titles in the knockout stages and is the beating heart of the team, especially in the dressing room. And Mourinho reportedly understands that, wanting to get on the same page with him, unlike his own former player Xabi Alonso, who failed in spectacular fashion at actually relating with the players as human beings and not tactical machines to do his bidding.
Finally, Thibaut Courtois is not a captain of Real Madrid, but he basically is. He is the one people have always looked to at the example, and for most Madridistas, he is truly the best player at the club. Courtois will be Mou's conscience on the pitch.
