It shouldn't be long before Jose Mourinho is formally and offiically announced as the next Real Madrid manager, as the elections between Florentino Perez and challenger Enrique Riquelme of Cox Energy are likely the only thing delaying Mou's second stint at the Santiago Bernabeu from becoming a reality.
Because already, it appears Mourinho is making good on the power Florentino is promising him in order to entice him to revive Real Madrid for a second tiem by offering formal transfer requests and recommendations to upgrade the squad.
According to a report from Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, via Madrid Xtra, Mourinho has a total of four requests for Perez and the Real Madrid front office. Unlike others, he does want a backup right back to support star man Trent Alexander-Arnold. He also wants an even better left back to compete with the disappointing Alvaro Carreras for minutes on the other flank. Further, Mourinho wants a dominant star at the center back position, as well as a creative midfielder to boost that area of the squad.
Jose Mourinho is right on the money
All four of these are reasonable requests that Real Madrid fans will agree with. For example, while David Jimenez and Jesus Fortea are right back prospects worth believing in, someone like Michael Kayode could be the cover, particularly defensively, that Trent needs, especially since Trent's injury bill isn't the cleanest.
The midfield has been a disaster in terms of control since the loss of Toni Kroos, further exacerbated by AC Milan signing away Luka Modric last summer at the foolhardy behest of Xabi Alonso. So they need more than just Arda Guler to keep things ticking, especially with Aurelien Tchouameni disappointing.
But the biggest needs for Real Madrid and the incoming Jose Mourinho, who sure loves his defensive stability, are center back and left back. Real Madrid do not have a starting caliber left back for a team with a desire to win the entire Champions League, whereas the only great center back is Eder Militao, who is coming off yet another bad injury. And it is imperative Real sign a star on that same level as Militao, with Inter Milan man Alessandro Bastoni seemingly Mou's dream pick.
Real Madrid and Florentino Perez are apparently prepared to give Mourinho what he wants, and they will need to indeed support him in ways that they did not with his good friend Carlo Ancelotti, because a lot of these players Mou wants are what the Don asked for years ago.
