Real Madrid youngster Endrick has been through a lot over the past year. After being eased along by Carlo Ancelotti in his first season at the club, the Brazilian sensation thought he would be part of a youth revolution under new manager Xabi Alonso, but he was instead ostracized by the coach to such an extent that even Florentino Perez and the Real Madrid front office grew upset as they had no explanation for this treatment, which threatened to send the young man into a depression.
Florentino and Madrid helped facilitate a new home for Endrick, who had to deal with skepticism from the notorious Paulo Fonseca. But at least Fonseca gave Endrick a chance to prove him wrong. And he did. Endrick was the best center forward in Ligue 1 for French giants Lyon, showing both goal scoring prowess and an ability to constantly create danger both off the dribble and even as a passer.
But Endrick came crashing back down to earth again at the World Cup. Both Real Madrid and even the Brazil national team fans were upset with Carlo Ancelotti for not giving Endrick starts, but when Carlo did call upon the teenager off the bench, he was clearly not up to the standard or the pressure of the occasion.
Endrick is good enough for Real Madrid
Real Madrid still have high hopes for Endrick, and new manager Jose Mourinho is sending the young forward all the right messages through the media. Even with the interest in Michael Olise on the right wing and Kylian Mbappe crucial in the middle (with Gonzalo Garcia ostensibly staying with the first team to back him up), Mourinho is making it clear that Endrick will be important to his plans and that there will be opportunities for the Brazilan star on both the right flank and as a No. 9.
With the World Cup over and about a month until Matchday 1 of the 2026/27 La Liga season, Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho have time to mull over Endrick and rethink everything that the club and his predecessors, especially Mou's former midfield general Xabi Alonso, have done with the teenage star.
By balling out for Lyon on short notice, Endrick showed he is clearly good enough for Real Madrid from a talent perspective. But by ghosting for Brazil in big games, he showed that he still is not an elite player or someone Real Madrid can count on yet. There is, however, a middle ground Real Madrid can use, and it is Mourinho's job to ponder the best way to make use of his quality in 2026/27.
