José Mourinho has yet to manage his first game in charge of Real Madrid since his second stint started earlier in the summer, but he has already been able to do something that even Zinedine Zidane wasn't able to achieve at the club.
Zinedine Zidane never got the treatment that José Mourinho is now getting in terms of signings and the amount of power in the transfers. Even Carlo Ancelotti never got that treatment in those regards.
The number of signings and the amount of investment that Real Madrid have made for Mourinho this summer, while also selling some of the players that Mourinho specifically wanted, is a privilege that the other two successful managers of this past decade were never able to get from Florentino Pérez and Real Madrid.

Obviously, they had really good squads to go with whatever aspirations they had. But Zidane and Ancelotti had asked for signings in the past, which has been well reported by many reputable journalists. They were never able to fully get what they wanted, apart from on a few occasions.
Zidane never got that in the three-peat era, and he only had a few signings in his second tenure at Real Madrid.
Ancelotti, on the other hand, obviously saw the arrivals of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé. But he was never specifically asked which players he wanted or which positions he wanted to see filled.
Real Madrid have always worked in a process that prioritizes the players and the scouting team over what the manager wants. But it seems like with Mourinho, every single player that he wants and every single profile that he wants to see reinforced has been heard by the club.
Part of it could be down to the amount of trust Real Madrid have in Mourinho. But if it's about trust, then Ancelotti and Zidane should also have had plenty of it.
However, that is not completely the case, and it is a very intriguing situation to think about when it comes to the legacies of these three managers.
Mourinho probably achieved the least out of the three in question, but he also inherited the worst squad in terms of mentality in his first tenure. He made that team into something that would pay bring a lot of success to Zidane and Ancelotti down the line.
So credit is definitely due to Mourinho, but credit should also be given to the other two managers.
