In particular, Florentino and the Real Madrid brass want Mourinho to instill that winning mentality back into the current squad, which has lost its way by failing to win a single trophy in the last two seasons. Real Madrid want to see Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Junior all on the same page and firing on all cylinders as an actual unit.
Speaking in an interview with the infamous Josep Pedrelol of El Chiringuito, Mourinho spoke about the brilliant World Cup performances Bellingham and Mbappe had this summer for England and France, respectively, and what he said points to a man who knows exactly how to manage elite players with big personalities like these two.

Jose Mourinho said of the Real Madrid superstar duo, via the Madrid Zone, "What Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé did at the World Cup was stunning. Jude had a wonderful campaign and Mbappé made history. When you work with the best, you have to make these best ones capable, within the team's dynamic, of being themselves. They have to be themselves."
That final sentence is the one that ringst he loudest. "They have to be themselves." Xabi Alonso ran into trouble because he was far too much of a dictator and too stringent with the players. Mourinho is like that in terms of being all business, regulating nutrition and training, and being strict about winning. But on the field, he wants his players to be lions and to play to their strengths as best as they can, rather than filling them into pre defined archetypes in his mind.
Mourinho, as any player who worked with him for years can attest, is so good at extracting everything out of superstars who respond well to pressure. And he knows how to play to their strengths, as he did with Mesut Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid or John Terry and Frank Lampard at Chelsea. Exciting times are ahead for Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and the other big players in Madrid.
