Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was presented by the club on Tuesday afternoon, where he reiterated his love for the team he’s rejoining after 13 years.
In a type of presentation that did not have a press conference for the first time in quite some time, Mourinho had an exclusive interview with RMTV, along with some other social media bits, and he talked about how he’s one of the fans, and his love has only grown in these last few years.
In a piece to camera, he was asked to give his message to the fans of the club, to which he said some beautiful and emotional things.
Mourinho said: “I am one of you. But not just today, I have always been, since the day I got presented in 2010 & the day I left in 2013, I am one of you.
“I have a fantastic memory of Wembley, when we beat Dortmund, and the affection that was shown to me that day.
“I really am one of you.”

These are the sorts of things many managers say about their former clubs, but with Mourinho, it feels a bit different. Mourinho has always been very open about his love Real Madrid, even long after leaving the club. He’s always talked fondly about the club, and is respectful, courteous and presents himself as one of the fans of the club.
Now, he is saying exactly those things which got fans to love him in the first place, while also feeling them from the bottom of his heart.
These are not the only things Mourinho said at his presentation, but they were certainly the most moving emotionally out of everything else. He obviously talked about what he wants to do with his return to the club, how excited he is, but this hits more deeply than any of that.
Mourinho fully knows the task at hand. He knows how hollow the club is at the moment. How detached the players are, and how confused these fans are, too. The one way to bring everything together is the togetherness that has been missing from the club for quite some time.
Obviously, Mourinho will be judged on the team he builds and how they play when the season starts, but it always goes deeper than that – Mourinho truly loves the club, and now was the perfect time to talk about that.
