Jose Mourinho did not like the craziness during Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Inter on Tuesday night.
Despite just three goals in 90 minutes for both sides, fans of both clubs would think th escoreline does not do the match any justice. Both sides had a billion chances that they failed to convert, and in the end, Real Madrid edged past the Italian champions at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid had five or six genuine chances throughout the game, and it seemed like Inter did too, which is why Mourinho was not particularly happy about the way through which Real Madrid won the contest.
Real Madrid should have controlled the game better vs Inter
He said: "The bottom line is that it could have ended... 5-1 or 6-1 for us. It could have ended 6-6. I don't mean to say that Inter could have won the game, because we created more chances and at crucial moments, like the 3-0 chance at the end of the first half... Jude's chance at the start of the second...
"But, it was a crazy game. A crazy game that I don't like. I don't like it. I much prefer being able to score five, six, or seven goals... but having complete control and not needing an absolutely incredible goalkeeper.
"In today's game, whoever decides the MVP was asleep, because if they don't give it to Courtois today, they'll never give it to him. That's not to take anything away from Valverde, who won it.
That is true. Having these chances on their own and nothing else would have been fine. Real Madrid would have ended up winning comfortably. However, they did not defend well in large stretches of the game, which is why Inter also had their fair share of chances.
However, more importantly, the game had no control for either team. Real Madrid need a controller, and it was proven once again on the night. There was no one in the middle of the park who wanted to calm things down, neither individually nor collectively, which is why both teams kept on creating chances.
The game could have been a blockbuster 6-6 draw, and it also could have been a huge win for Real Madrid or Inter, but the fact of the matter is, Real Madrid were just about clinical enough to put the game to bed.
After they went 2-0 up, they had a plethora of chances that could have been used to punish Inter on the night. There were so many chances which would have gotten them closer to those huge scorelines Mourinho was talking about, but like the game against Real Betis, they did not convert.
If Real Madrid had ended the game there and then, this would not be a huge topic of discussion, but the fact that it was as close as it was makes it imperative to talk about the lack of control Real Madrid had.
They were not punished in this game, but against another team that takes their chances, they might be.
