Real Madrid superstar striker Kylian Mbappe had a game for the ages against Real Sociedad, scoring a hat trick and even creating three chances in an attacking monster class as part of a much needed 4-1 blowout win for Jose Mourinho's win.
Mbappe has been explosive in these last three games, and after not scoring on a whopping 10 shots in a pretty disappointing display against Espanyol that Real Madrid barely won 2-1, the Frenchman was at his clinical best again on Wednesday night in front of the roaring Santiago Bernabeu.
After the game, Jose Mourinho praised Mbappe's quality and goal scoring potential in this Real Madrid attack, but he also made a pointed statement that every single true Madridista will agree with.
Kylian Mbappe needs to win
Mourinho told reporters, via the Madrid Zone, "Can Mbappé reach 60 goals this season with me the same way Cristiano did? Kylian is INCREDIBLE, but that's not what I'm focused on. I'd rather 40 goals with trophies, than 60 goals trophyless."
That is one thousand percent what Kylian Mbappe needed to hear. Whlie the whole world gasses him up again for the goals, Mourinho is reminding everyone of what is most important, because it is the only thing that has mattered to Mou throughout his career: everything you need to do needs to be about winning as a team.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a lot and broke a lot of records, but he is Mbappe's idol and everyone's favorite at the White House not just becaue he scored a lot but because he won more than anyone else at Real Madrid. The man won four Champions League titles, and his most famous moments were the big ones in games like Wolfsburg and Juventus.
Real Madrid don't need to worry about how much Mbappe scores. They need to worry about how much he wins and how much he helps the team win. After winning back to back Pichichis and the World Cup Golden Boot with zero trophies to show since leaving PSG, where he also never won the Champions League, Mbappe's point he has to prove to Madridistas is not about scoring 50 or 60 goals like Cristiano; he needs to prove he can win even half as much as the Portuguese national team forward did at the Bernabeu.
Mbappe has to heed what Jose Mourinho is preaching. Real Madrid need winners, not individuals who go for the Ballon d'Or only.
