Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho completely dismantled three different myths that have emerged in the last few days about his players at the club that have had a damaging impact on their image in front of the fans. In a very long and heated press conference, Mourinho talked about basically everything under the sun that has been happening with and around Real Madrid players.
He was asked about how the players should act outside of the pitch, and his answer was basically about the fact that everything has been blown out of proportion by the media. He stood alongside all of his players. He did reiterate that if a Real Madrid player does not act like a Real Madrid player off the pitch, he will take actions, but until that happens, he will obviously defend his players.
The three myths that Mourinho discussed were Dean Huijsen texting while driving a car alongside Thiago Pitarch. There was another story about Kylian Mbappé going to a nightclub during the international break when he was supposed to be recovering from his injury. There was another piece of gossip by the media about Mbappe taking an unauthorised cycling trip in Switzerland when he was on personal leave.
Sometimes, this is exactly what Real Madrid players need from their manager
He talked about how the media was exaggerating everything and how this leads to an attack on the players when it is no longer needed.
He said: "The real problems that football has had these past couple of weeks haven’t been enough, so there’s this search for problems from the media. First, the nightclub that wasn’t a nightclub. Because it was a venue for a private event during Paris Fashion Week.
"Then, the bicycle in Switzerland, which was a hotel with small houses. They were bicycles for getting around to common areas in a quiet hotel. And it seems he was doing the Tour de Suisse. Then, poor Huijsen, who was standing in front of Pitarch’s house sending a message, and suddenly he’s practically a criminal on the highway at 200 km/h sending messages."
Kylian Mbappé was obviously the centre of attention for everything because of what happened the last time he went on leave while being injured. Because of that, he has been ridiculed by the media and the fans in the last week, too. Mourinho was the first person to defend the player as soon as he got the chance to.
Essentially, this is what Real Madrid need at the moment. Every single player that they have has been turned into a bad guy by so many people, but he always brings out these facts and reiterates his point about these exaggerations and talks about the standards that he holds his players to in the first place.
All these things are good to hear because the public wants to hear the manager defend the players when the players allegedly haven't done anything wrong. There are a lot of things that will always be reported about players who are playing for a club as big as Real Madrid, which is exactly why he felt the need to go to the media room and talk about how everything has been exaggerated. Presumably, it was a way to sway the fans into trusting and supporting these players a bit more than they were in these last couple of weeks.
That is not to say that they needed to be swayed, because maybe Mourinho is right and the players in question have not done anything wrong. It is a good tactic for Mourinho to talk about it because no one else would defend the players as well and as often as Mourinho would, which is sometimes what they need from their manager.
