Jose Mourinho said in a recent press conference that, in order for Real Madrid to buy players, they will also have to sell them. In the game before Sevilla, he was asked about whether the club will be doing any transfer business in the winter window, which is something that Real Madrid don't generally go into.

He gave a very Carlo Ancelotti-type response, saying that he does not really want new players.

He said, "The 23 players are always caught up. I am not asking for anything. I am happy with the squad and the players. I feel that it is normal for people to improve both individually and collectively, especially if we have the time and pace of work.

"It is a coach's job to develop his players. I don't look like I am asking for players. I like having small squads, and if someone comes in, someone else has to leave. The sporting director has something in mind. We're here to consider it, but it wouldn't be my initiative."

Raul Asencio, Ferland Mendy, and, to an extent, Eduardo Camavinga should be alarmed

That is a pretty good way to look at transfer strategies, especially for the winter window, because normally a club as big as Real Madrid, who have such a big what, don't generally go into the January window in the hopes of selling someone and signing another player.

However, in this specific case, they will be better off selling at least one of their players to improve their team if an opportunity comes around. It is not completely confirmed that they will, and there have not been any rumours around it, but Real Madrid were actively looking for a central midfielder as well as a central defender in the summer.

If they were to bring any of these players in, they would have to sell some of the players they already have. That is exactly why players like Ferland Mendy, Raul Asencio, and, to an extent, even Eduardo Camavinga could be on the list.

Camavinga, to be absolutely fair with him, has played well enough to at least not warrant a sale immediately. He has definitely improved in the last few games, especially with France, but the other two in particular are going to be put up for sale if Real decide to enter the transfer window.

It probably won't happen, but if it does, Mendy and Asencio will be the first two players they try to sell off because Mendy does not really provide too much to this Real Madrid team. He has not played in a very long time, and the position that he plays in is already really well covered with two good players in Alvaro Carreras and Marc Cucurella.

Asencio, on the other hand, is a player at centre back who, although young, is still not good enough for Real Madrid at the moment. He's also had his off-field issues, which will obviously have an impact on the coach's perception of him. Last but not least, he also has been injured for a very long time and hasn't played a single minute this season.

Even if we look at Camavinga playing well this season, he has probably recovered his transfer value enough for the club to want a good amount of fee to be able to sign another midfielder, if a controlling profile becomes available.

Obviously, it is very difficult to see any of this happening, but if Real Madrid do decide to enter the transfer window, these three players must be alarmed because they will be the ones who the club may be looking to sell.
