Jose Mourinho has always been very appreciative of Vinicius Junior. So far during his time at Real Madrid, Mourinho has always defended Vinicius Junior from the media and has always supported him despite his poor form to start the season. He only has one goal and three assists so far this season, which is nowhere near good enough for Vinicius Junior.

Despite that, unless it is an injury or fitness concern, Vinicius Junior always ends up starting for the club. He's always on the team sheet, and according to Mourinho, without any promises, he will probably start on Wednesday as well.

There are better players to play than Vinicius Junior right now

Obviously, you have to play him to have a chance of getting his confidence back, but there should be a point where a manager like Mourinho stops defending him publicly all the time and lets him figure out how to get back to his best. I'm not claiming to be a manager, but Vinicius Junior was feeling loved by Mourinho all this time, and yet things just have not improved for the Brazilian.

Would the old Mourinho keep starting him despite the poor form, or would he play players like Yan Diomande on that side? Obviously, there are a lot of factors to consider, but Real Madrid at the moment need the stern version of Mourinho in front of Vinicius Junior. Even if he defends him from the media all the time, what matters is that when it is time for Real Madrid to play, everyone who features does so on merit and not name.

That should never be the case because if Real Madrid always keep playing players based on what they did in the past or how big of an influence they have on the team, they will not get anywhere. That has been the problem in the last few seasons. Vinicius Junior is getting a lot of good treatment from Mourinho, but if that does not result in good form, maybe it is time for Mourinho to change a bit and see, from the fan's perspective, how concerning it is to watch the Brazilian play this way.

Of course, he wants the best for the player and the team, which is why he continues to play him and defend him every chance he gets. Vinicius Junior has had that treatment for a while, and he has had that from multiple managers in the last three years. If nothing has changed, and if it has only gotten worse progressively, then something in the approach needs to change in order to help get the Brazilian back to his best.
